FLGeoWeek 2025
Florida's Historic Tourism

Welcome to this year’s exciting exploration of Florida’s historic tourism! Throughout this topic, we’ll journey back in time to discover how early visitors experienced our state, long before Disney and modern resorts.

Historic tourism played a major role in Florida’s growth. Visitors who came to see all the natural wonders of Florida helped spark the development of communities, railroad transportation, and local businesses. Their stories, photographs, and written accounts give us important clues about what life in Florida used to be like and why certain places became famous long before our time.

Today, these early tourism sites continue to influence the Florida we know. Some places still stand, protected through parks and preservation efforts, while others survive only through memories, oral histories, and photographs.
